The French Alpine driver addressed the incident involving the Argentine that resulted in both of them—along with Lando Norris—dropping out of the Azerbaijan Grand Prix.
French driver Pierre Gasly stated that “respect” would be a key condition for building a good relationship with Franco Colapinto at the Alpine Formula 1 team, after being asked about the incident caused by the Argentine at the Azerbaijan Grand Prix.
In that race, Colapinto’s actions led to a collision with Gasly’s car, knocking both team drivers—as well as McLaren’s Lando Norris—out of the race.
According to the Noticias Argentinas agency, citing statements made to Sky Sports F1, the driver from Pilar was quick to apologize for the incident; Gasly accepted the apology but made it clear he was unhappy about the situation.
Furthermore, the two members of the French team had experienced a tense moment during the previous race in Madrid, when the Argentine was impeded by his teammate late in the race while fighting to keep Oscar Piastri behind him.
