Donald Trump selected Mel Gibson, Sylvester Stallone, and Jon Voight to serve as special ambassadors to Hollywood, aiming to restore the greatness of the American film industry.
However, Sylvester Stallone revealed that he was not consulted prior to the appointment and learned of the news via television. The actor considered the task virtually impossible due to Hollywood’s structure, which operates like a system of feudal states where major independent studios manage their own interests, making external influence difficult.
Regarding his refusal, Stallone stated: “I said thank you and goodbye, because it’s impossible.” After speaking with Trump, he explained that the proposal would not work, particularly because the leaders of major film corporations would not accept an actor lecturing them on finance. According to the actor, Hollywood has its own business mechanisms for evolution and does not require that type of external intervention.
While Stallone declined the role, Jon Voight decided to get involved in the White House-backed project. The actor has supported the initiative to create federal tax incentives to bring film and television productions back to the United States, aiming to compete with the advantages offered by other countries.
Additionally, Stallone’s representative confirmed that the actor signed a letter to Trump supporting the initiative, though he made it clear that this did not imply acceptance of the special ambassador role he had been assigned.
This refusal is notable given the public admiration Stallone has expressed for Trump. Following the 2024 election, the actor introduced the former president at a Mar-a-Lago event as an almost mythical figure, even comparing him to George Washington. In a recent interview, Stallone reiterated his respect for Trump’s career, highlighting the paradox that one of his greatest admirers has declined the very mission designed to restore Hollywood’s golden age.
