When we want to listen to new songs and artists, we can’t always rely on what’s playing on the radio or what friends and family recommend.
In this case, music apps can help us discover new music and find artists that match our personal tastes. Here are five of the most useful apps so you don’t end up listening to the same old thing on your phone or tablet.
Spotify
One of the most powerful—and popular—music tools out there. Spotify has always been at the forefront of discovering new artists, thanks largely to its “Discover” section.
However, a few months ago, it introduced an even more effective feature: the “Discover Weekly” playlist. Every Monday, Spotify experts include 30 songs they think you’ll like, based—of course—on what you’ve been listening to over the past few months. It’s an essential, accurate service that’s well worth trying. The playlist is free, though you’ll need a Premium account to listen offline.
Bandsintown
Everyone loves going to a concert now and then; the problem arises when you don’t know who is coming to your city or aren’t familiar with any of the artists.
Bandsintown is a highly useful and accurate app that notifies you about upcoming concerts near your location, allowing you to stay informed and buy tickets well in advance.
Shazam
In addition to featuring various genre-based lists of the most searched-for and successful tracks worldwide, this app is a fantastic tool for identifying those songs you love but don’t know the titles of. With just a quick activation, Shazam shows you all available information about the track currently playing—such as the title, artist, music video, and even the lyrics—while also recommending other songs by the same artist or from similar genres.
