Colapinto moves up to ninth for the Azerbaijan GP start

The Argentine Alpine driver will start ninth in Azerbaijan—behind Verstappen and ahead of Bearman—following an official penalty.

Franco Colapinto will start the Azerbaijan Grand Prix from ninth place after a grid adjustment allowed him to move up one spot. The Argentine driver had finished tenth in qualifying in his Alpine but will now begin the race from ninth.

The change resulted from a penalty handed to Carlos Sainz, who had finished qualifying ahead of the Argentine. The Williams driver received a five-place grid penalty for failing to properly respect a yellow flag during the third qualifying session.

The penalty for Sainz
According to the stewards’ decision, Sainz had been warned by his team about a yellow flag on the approach to Turn 3. However, the stewards determined that he did not slow down sufficiently in the affected sector.

The penalty dropped Sainz from ninth to fourteenth on the grid, while the drivers behind him moved up one position. Consequently, Colapinto secured the ninth spot for Sunday’s race.

How the front of the grid looks

Colapinto will start immediately behind Max Verstappen and ahead of Oliver Bearman. The leading positions will be occupied by George Russell (on pole), followed by Charles Leclerc, Oscar Piastri, Isack Hadjar, Lando Norris, Lewis Hamilton, Pierre Gasly, and Verstappen.
