Cosmetologist Daniela Gil explained how organic tanning works, how long it lasts, and the care steps needed to achieve an even tone.
With the arrival of wedding, graduation, and holiday party season, organic tanning has emerged as an aesthetic alternative for those looking to give their skin a golden glow without resorting to sun exposure or tanning booths. Daniela Gil, an aesthetician and cosmetologist, explained to Salud & Bienestar how this service works and what care it requires.
Unlike treatments involving multiple sessions, this is a single-appointment service. “Organic tanning is basically an airbrush service where a self-tanning lotion is applied to the person for a more uniform finish,” Gil explained.
The product is applied to the skin and develops its color progressively. According to the specialist, self-tanning lotions work through an oxidation process and must remain on the skin for several hours before the first shower. Depending on the product used, this waiting period can range from six to eight, or even up to 12 hours.
Skin preparation makes the difference
To achieve an even result, preparation begins before the appointment. Gil recommended showering, exfoliating, and hair removal beforehand to avoid procedures that might strip away the color later.
At the time of application, the skin must be clean and dry.
“No creams, serums, sunscreens, or any other chemicals on the skin, so as not to alter the final result,” she detailed.
The session lasts approximately 30 minutes, and the resulting tan can last anywhere from a week to ten days. Its longevity varies depending on showering, perspiration, physical activity, and other factors that accelerate the skin’s surface renewal.
